About us
La Polena s.r.l herewith inform you that in June 2009 was opened the newest tourist resort on the island of Favignana, one of the Sicilian Egadi Islands along with Marittimo, Levanzo and Formica.
The "Il Nido del Pellegrino" Residence is located on the Grosso coastline, making about 7 ha. of ground dropping to the sea and obtained restoring a former military structure dating back to World War II.
The environment inspired our architects in choosing the furnishing and the trimmings and natural materials such as whitened durmast, stone, typical majolica tiles, natural cotton fabric and refined essences have been combined with technology and comfort.
The residence features ten ground floor apartments of three different typologies in two separated buildings. Five two-room apartments with a gallery furnished with a sofa-bed, four two-room apartments with a sofa-bed in the living-room and a three-room one. All equipped with cooking facilities with every necessary utensils, air conditioning, intercom, satellite plasma TV and pay-per-view, safe, hair drier and internet connection. The maid service of apartments with change of towels and bed linen is bi-weekly.
Every accommodation has got a private yard and a sheltered veranda furnished with comfortable armchairs for outdoor meals.
A third building has been designed for the hardest to please: two independent luxury bedrooms, each with a furnished private terrace, on the top of the promontory where to sip a glass of chilly wine admiring the sun setting behind the island of "Marettimo". Romantic nests for those seeking for total relax and special cuddling: air conditioning, intercom, satellite plasma TV and pay-per-view, coffee machine with different flavour capsules, fridge-bar and safe. Chromatic-therapy showers, freestone cutting insertions and mosaics. Daily cleaning and change of both bath and bed-linen.
In the same building there is a third room, enjoying the same treatment as the above mentioned two rooms, with stone walls and a bathroom directly dug in the stone.
Available at guests' disposition: fax service, private parking areas, porter and night watchman.
The opening season will be March to December, including Christmas and New Year holidays.
However, together with all the comforts provided in the Residence, Nature plays the actual main character. The naming "Il Nido del Pellegrino" has not been a casual choice: the Traveller and the Falcon. Sure, here the peregrine falcon is the unquestioned lord and master of the sky; there are many seagulls, but falcons are the native mountain dwellers and lords of the sky.
Instead, on the ground there is a great flourishing of Mediterranean endemic flora: garlic to rocket, asparagus to caper, prickly pears, wild fennel, carobs, dwarf palm trees, olive trees, and the like… all natural and wild, scattered in the residence area and clinging through the grooves of the sea-touched rocks.
In his stroll towards the sea the Guest passes through long forgotten scents, astounding colours, seagulls on the wing and swirling falcons, natural terraces and rocks perched above the sea. All these in the Residence secluded area, protected from curious or indiscreet glances. Some platforms to ease bathing and diving from the stones are in the planning stage.
The "Nido del Pellegrino" is intended for people searching a relaxing and reserved haven: a Mediterranean oasis, tonic and characterised by its scents and quiet. Those who appreciate a simple style without abandoning refined settings will enjoy the charm of this place, which the inhabitants call "the most beautiful place in Favignana" and when the Guest looks from the veranda at the breath-taking Mediterranean Sea and its sunsets, he cannot help sharing such opinion.
Great importance is due to the marine reserve of the Egadi, whose grounds have so different and peculiar features as to be defined unique in their kind. Countless different species of pelagic and resident fishes, shellfish and molluscs, invertebrates and madrepores have their ideal habitat in this corner of sea. Scuba diving lovers will personally verify with their diving-mask and flippers that the Egadi archipelago has nothing to envy to the most renowned tropical seas. At any time of the year, in any weather, scuba divers can dive both by the coastline and in the open sea, especially at the Secca del Toro (Bull’s shallows), a well-known and requested destination among the frequent visitors. Despite being available to everybody - the sea in the Egadi Archipelago is not "easy" as it is quite unpredictable and facing it without knowing it is imprudent.
Based on these premises the Residence management entrusted all scuba diving activities to the Scuba Diving Centre "Progetto Atlantide" ("Atlantis Project"), working in the Island for 20 years and based on the Porticciolo di Punta Longa (Punta Longa Port), close to the sea and 50m. from the villa, less than a kilometre away from the Residence. We warmly suggest consulting the Diving Centre Website: www.progettoatlantide.com where you can find a special section dedicated to children.
The management arranges:
- transfers to/from Palermo or Trapani airports;
- excursions to Favignana: Mount S. Caterina, Preveto islands, bike tour of the island to the most suggestive and historical areas and boat trip;
- boat trips and trekking excursions on the Levanzo island including a visit to the Grotta del Genovese, a cave housing perfectly preserved cave drawings from the Neolithic;
